How many barmen do you need?
Our working ratios, refined over 25 years of events.
- Beer, wine and softs only: one barman per 50 guests.
- Cocktail service: one barman per 40 guests.
- Drinks reception with a tray service: add one runner per 60 guests.
- Weddings with a simultaneous toast: add a second pair of hands for 45 minutes.
- Corporate receptions with a hard 90-minute window: one barman per 30 guests.
What a barman brings
Uniform (black shirt, apron, branded where you prefer), personal bar tools, Challenge 25 knowledge, allergen awareness and a refusals policy they can apply without souring the room.
Barman hire versus full bar hire
Hire barmen only if you already have a bar, stock, glassware and refrigeration. If any of those are missing, mobile bar hire is usually cheaper than sourcing each piece separately.
Licensing
If drinks are gifted to invited guests, no licence is required. If drinks are sold, a Temporary Event Notice is needed and we can apply on your behalf for £50.
Timings and overtime
Four hours minimum on site. We arrive 90 minutes before guests without charging setup as service time, and extensions on the night are agreed at the same rate, never a premium.
Coverage
Liverpool, Manchester, London, Wirral, Cheshire, Chester, Preston, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and Altrincham as standard, with destination events in North Wales, the Lakes and Yorkshire delivered regularly.
